Wood & The Mill / Pittsburgh
Local roots.
Another life.
Recovered urban trees. Useful material.
Opportunities built into the process.
Material with a purpose
More than what
we make.
Responsible Wood Production is one of Landforce’s two social enterprises. It connects workforce training with the recovery and use of wood from Pittsburgh-area communities.
Logs from trees already down or scheduled for professional removal can become lumber for personal and professional projects. Recovery, milling, and drying give that material a next chapter while people build practical experience.

Log recovery
Keep good wood in use.

Follow the material
Recover. Mill. Dry.
Make something lasting.
A sawyer’s decisions, air circulation, and moisture monitoring all shape the journey from an urban log to usable lumber. The process takes time and depends on the material.

The work begins outside
The log is the starting point. Its size, condition, and access help shape what happens next.

Look a little closer
Useful measurements and clear photographs give the wood team a better first picture.
Recovery starts before the cut.
Landforce does not fell trees. If professional removal is planned, contact the team early so usable log dimensions and access can be discussed.
